Fancy an Unlocked iPhone 3G

15 Dec

…well you are in luck as Apple have posted a listing with all authorized countries selling the iPhone 3G and whether the carrier offers the phone unlocked, unlocked upon request along with a couple of other intersting carrier details.

So, if you are in the market for an officially unlocked Apple iPhone 3G, all you need is this link and a plane ticket to Greece… (or a friend to purchase and send over on your behalf).

iPhone App | SteadyCam

14 Dec

steadyCamFirstly, it should be said that the iPhone Camera is not bad at all (read good) and the software and image capture about does the job for most pic needs, especially in well lit conditions.

The only negative points I would mention is poor performance in low light (no flash) and the slightest movement can result in blurry images – not good.

This is where SteadyCam comes in and saves the day. A FREE download from the App Store (first 30,000 downloads).  Developed by Stepcase, this app is nice, clean and does a great job.

SteadyCam uses the iPhone’s accelerometer to to ensure that the user is completely steady when taking the shot, ensuring a crisp, clear picture.

Nice.

Whilst SteadyCam is free, I can only recommend you stop reading and immediately download the app as it’s a great, usefull addition to the iPhone.

So where are the downsides? Well, it takes it’s time saving the picture which is a serious problem and worst of all is that if you are in a hurry hit the home button during saving, the picture will not be saved. Boo…

Regardless, this is a great app. SteadyCam is a must for your Apple iPhone!

iPhone 2.2 Email Picture Bug

09 Dec

Having loved the 2.1 and 2.2 update for the iPhone, I thought my iPhone 3G was back in tip-top performance having greatly improved its response and stability (OK, I’ll admit that Safari still crashed now and again… But an improvement!), but Apple just can’t seem to get things in order.

iPhone firmware 2.2 is a fantastic release with some great new features (Street view in the UK, please) but a new bug has raised its ugly head and is another one from the annoying bank.

When you receive certain sized images in your email (typically, images taken from th iPhone Camera), they look perfect.  But save those images to your Camera Roll and the image is resampled and appears pixelated and blurred.  Not good.

I am sure that this will again be sorted in the next firmware release, but another feature of the iPhone I use regularly has ‘sprung a leak’.

This is the first Apple OSX product I use on a regular basis and I was under the impression that Apple products ‘work’.  I have to say I am a bit surprised at the instability. That said, I still would not give up my iPhone for all the nokias in the world!  Just wish the firmware testing was improved at Apple.

More information on this bug can be found here at Apple Support.

The iPhone SDK

13 Mar

It’s coming and for the moment, development is only OS X. :(

The possibilities are endless and I can not wait to see what comes in June. The Enterprise features alone are going to squash the Blackberry!

Will I be developing a native app for iPhone, Hmm… At this stage, I would say No. Not until a development environment is availble for the PC (or emulated)… iPhone Web Apps are a different story and I hope to have a few developments online soon..

Are you Robotist?

13 Mar

I love this article and the questions raised in Isaac Asimovs ‘I, Robot’. The questions it raises I personally think are fantastic…! crazy…! fair…! real…?

Think about it, if we do create an AI which will develop itself to have some form of understanding of right / wrong, respect and dare I see emotional awareness, is it wrong to deny it some basic rights to ensure we do not abuse what is essentially a form of existence?

Ooh… I have shivers!

iPhone – You need it…!

13 Mar

Yes, I am an iPhone owner, user and fanboy. Seriously, the iPhone is THE most impressive device I have ever used, let alone owned. Not only is the interface as revolutionary as it appears, but its usefullness for everyday use (and I mean beyond making calls and txts) is fantastic.

I could go on, I would love to go on, but I won’t.

Just get one!

The Birth of Email = The Birth of Spam

13 Mar

SPAM. Such a small word, yet a major pain in the ass! For me anyway, as I am presently not in the market for Viagra, a penis extension or a couple of million quid from some algerian businessman who needs to move some imaginary funds around…

If you are into any of those things, then I guess you have no idea what people are complaining about and feel Email is a magical tool where mysterious friends present interesting products and services you use every day… They even inform you when your online bank account needs attention. What nice people… /sarcasm

Will Spam go away, well IMO no chance! In the meantime, here is an interesting article about where it all began.
